Ghee or clarified butter is considered to be one of the essential ingredients in our kitchen due to its numerous health benefits. Usually in India it is a tradition to serve rotis(wheat breads) with ghee on it. Also, many dishes are made in clarified butter. No wonder my grandmother had long and thick lustrous hair, glowing skin and body without any ailments, that testify the medicinal attributes of ghee.

Ghee is used in many Ayurvedic medicines to add more medicinal attributes to the medicines. Along with the medicinal properties it is also long lasting and hence can be preserved for several months. Therefore, it is used in many Indian sweets like Ladoos(multigrain sweet balls/nuts sweet balls), which are been stored for months. It is advised to have a spoonful of ghee daily for medicinal benefits. The purest form of ghee is the Cow Ghee.

With many benefits, ghee is surrounded by many myths as well. Some of them are, it causes heart stroke, it lead to obesity and weight gain, it increases cholesterol etc. On the contrary, ghee has those medicinal attributes, which actually keep you away from these disorders when consumed in right proportion.

#Myth 1 :- It lead to obesity

People usually fear to consume ghee because they associate it with weight gain. Ghee is lipolytic in nature and helps in breakdown of fat. Also it is rich in conjugated linoleic acid, which is good for heart and weight loss. It is preferred to eat rice and bread with one teaspoon of ghee, so that it helps in digesting the food.

Fact :- If anyone wants to lose weight eat 3 teaspoons of ghee daily. One teaspoon in morning, one in afternoon and one in evening.

#Myth 2 :- Causes artery blockages and heart strokes

Cow ghee is most pure form of ghee. Fat in ghee is monounsaturated fatty acids, which is considered to be good fat. So, when one consumes ghee the cholesterol level in the blood is reduced and it prevents cardiovascular diseases.

Fact :- If anyone wants to reduce blood cholesterol than eat 3 teaspoons of ghee daily. One teaspoon in morning, one in afternoon and one in evening.

#Myth 3 :- It is harmful for joints

Many people stay away from ghee as they think it might damage their joints. Whereas, eating ghee daily maintains lubrication in the joints and helps in recovering from joint pain.

Fact :- If anyone has joint pain than eat 3 teaspoons of ghee daily. One teaspoon should be eaten on empty stomach in the morning, one in afternoon and one in evening.

Our ancestors have given us many valuable things in inheritance. But due to some rumors and myths spread by others we refuse to accept the facts. We have to step back and turn and look into our roots. Our mother nature has given us everything on which our ancestors lived upon and they were hale and hearty.

So if you want to preserve their body and beauty, don’t say no to Ghee.
