With the sporting season kicking off, there has never been a more essential time to get things in order. However, the type of first aid items that may be required during sports can be completely different to the one which you find in a home or workplace. When sport is played, there is a high percentage that you will encounter bruises, sprains and strains which will require lots of different items to be kept on hand. However, every first aid kit should have a handful of vital items.

If you are unsure of what types of items you will require, we have put together this guide of five essential items you should have on hand in case of an emergency.

Bandages
One of the most important items of any first aid kit is bandages. As they come in so many different shapes and sizes, it is important to have a variety. Bandages can be used to help a number of injuries. For example, our bandages can help with broken ankle pain relief, and normal bandages can help to support or hold something in place. However, there are other types of bandages such as elasticated ones which can help to reduce swelling or provide support to a sprained ankle or wrist.

The four main types of bandages are:

Gauze
Compression
Triangular
Tube
Plasters
Maybe one of the more obvious items to be included in a first aid kit, but also one of the most essential; Plasters come in an array of different shapes and sizes and should be included in any first aid box, whether that is at home or work. Plasters can be the perfect solution for any accidental cuts which may occur.

The three most common types of plasters are:

Washproof
Blue plasters
Fabric
Antiseptic cream/wipes
In many first aid kits, you are sure to find some sort of antiseptic product. This can range from cream and spray to wipes and are an essential part of any first aid box. They can help clean up any cuts as well as preventing any further infection.

The most common types of antibacterial products are:

Liquid solutions

Sprays
Wipes
Lotions
Creams
Painkillers
Painkillers can be a welcomed addition when an individual is suffering from a headache or any other aches and pains. Pain relievers and even fever reducers are the most basic common painkillers to put in your first aid kit. These will provide relief for many minor aches, pains, and illnesses.

Most common pain relief products:

Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Aspirin
Safety Pins
If you have any type of bandages in your first aid box, then it is essential that you also have safety pins. This is so that you can secure bandages properly in case anyone has a sprain or injury which needs to be held in place.

All of these items are commonly found in any first aid box, but each kit will change depending on where the box is. For example, if you are putting together a first aid kit for a sporting event, then it is important that you have the right type of treatment for a range of injuries which may occur.
