Why my phone is in AIRPLANE mode
I use my phone a lot. I usually post on steemit from my phone. It tracks my steps and stairs, plays podcasts, and keeps me in touch with family and friends.
I love it. 💗
But there are some things I don’t love about my phone:
- Needing a case But without a case, my phone would be broken by now. And I like to keep my phone in good condition.
- Needing a pocket
Where else can I stash it? - 2FA
It is a hassle to have so many things that need two factor authorization on a device different than the one you are currently using. That isn’t my phone’s fault though. And I do want security. I can live with this one. - Effect on posture
Most people have head hang from using their phones. I am a bit more posturally conscious, so I don’t have that problem. But I do often keep my phone in my back pocket. And sitting on your phone (or wallet) is bad for your spine. So I try to remember to take it out when I sit, but I often forget. If I do take it out, I have to remember to take it with me later.
So far, most of these could be solved by getting a watch instead of a phone.
But the BIGGEST THING I don’t like about my phone is:
Radio Frequency (RF) Radiation
This is the stuff that you can’t see that makes your phone do such cool stuff like airdrop photos and use the internet. You can talk and text everywhere. Music can come out of speakers without wires! Tickets to shows and travel don’t need to be printed.
Amazing.
What are RFs?
Simply put, there are many RF waves in our phones. They come from cell reception, wi-fi reception, and bluetooth reception. Basically, anytime wires are not needed. You would think they are safe for use, but we are learning more and more about the harm -- there is a price to such convenience.
What are the Tradeoffs?
Studies show a host of diseases from brain cancer, headaches, cardiovascular disease, and more.
- Have you noticed that fertility rates have dropped 50%?
- Do you think breast cancer increases are due to phones being stored in bras or purses near the chest is significant?
- People are getting 25% less sleep than they used to -- deep sleep has dropped too.
We are bombarded by these waves wherever we go.
But I am doing something about my little corner of the world.
Reduce the HARM
When I get outside (to get my vitamin D from the sun and my exercise), I bring my phone. But I put it in AIRPLANE MODE so none of the RF rays are near my body. And my phone can still do so much for me:
- I can use an app to time my various workout sets.
- I can listen to podcasts while I walk.
- I can take notes about things.
- I can take pictures and videos.
- I can read books I have started.
- I can play games.
- I can review messages and mail that I have already read on my phone.
- I can show boarding passes and tickets to scan.
- I can use my PAY function - to charge to my credit card.
- I can use my alarm
- I can use my calendar.
- Maps show where I am when I need to know.
Keep your distance:
The closer you are to your phone, the bigger the impact on your health. When you need to use your phone and airplane mode is not an option, don’t store it near your body. Using headphones will keep the phone away from your brain while talking.
Read more about the effect of removing the headphone jack from the iPhone 7.
Studies suggest putting your phone in another room to help you sleep. Keeping it at least 4 feet away from your body is a good idea.
Turn it off at night
I use wifi on my phone at home. My cell phone costs just $10/month. I thought I was sparing myself of cell radiation. But I didn’t realize wifi and bluetooth was just as bad.
Now, I turn my phone in airplane mode before I go to sleep. And I sleep great!
Some people turn off their whole house wi-fi and only use direct, plugged in ethernet connections in their home. That is something I am considering.
As technology advances, warnings also abound: 11 concerns of 5G. And, tools to keep us safe from harm will be sure to follow.
But in the meantime, I am not just focused on my phone: I also use a convection oven to avoid microwaves in and around my food and body.
More from @mhrose
Very informative thank you. Posture alone can harm health. Also they did a study on monkeys with RF and were able to alter there behavior. Especially violence and anger. Resteemed.
I’m glad to hear about someone else who notices posture.
And, I’m not surprised about the monkey study.
Thank you for sharing.
amazing friend ,, i like that..choose me to be your group ..
