Reduce your blood pressure within two weeks without medication

New York (Reuters Health) - A two-week diet program can reduce blood pressure quickly , according to a recent British medical study.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of St. Andrews , and the results were presented Tuesday at the American Dietetic Association conference , held from 9 to 12 June in Boston.

The researchers called theprogram "Newstart Lifestyle" including a vegetarian diet ,drinking plenty of water , getting enough sleep for between 7 and 8 hours , and exercising outside .

Food recommended by the study include legume , whole grains , vegetable , fruits , nuts , seeds , olives , avocados , soy milk , almond milk and whole grain bred .

The researchers tested the program on 117 peoplebwith high blood pressure , and committed to it for 14 days ,

At the end of the program , half of the participants achieved a blood pressure rate of 120/80 mmHg (blood pressure unit), where their blood pressure dropped 19 points on average .

According to researchers , lowering blood pressure at this rate could halve the risk of heart disease or stroke .

The program has proven effective in lowering blood pressure in all groups , including healthy men and women , people with diabetes , obesity or high cholesterol levels .

The researchers found that the reduction in blood pressure achieved by the program is equivalent to what can be achieved using three standard blood pressure drugs .

Ninety-three precent of the participants either reduced the dosage of the drugs (24%) or the total(69%) of the totalblood pressure medication.
"By following the Newstart Lifestyle program , half of the people in our study achieved normal blood pressure within two weeks , avoiding the side effects and costs associated with blood pressure medications " said research leader Dr.Alfredo Mejia.

This program work fast , is cheap and uses a pliable diet that allows for moderate amounts of slat and healthy fats from nuts , olives , avocados and some vegetable oils."
