The study - a collaboration between UC San Francisco and digital health startup Cardiogram - was able to prove that about 463 participants had previously undiagnosed diabetes ...

Cardiogram co-founder Johnson Hsieh explained how the condition can be diagnosed using nothing more than heart-rate data.

"In 2015, the Framingham Heart Study showed that high resting heart rate and low heart rate variability shows who will spring up diabetes over a 12-year period. Then, 33,628 person-weeks of health sensor data was successfully used to train a deep neural network by presenting it with cases from people who have the slow killer disease and those who don't have it as well (Diabetes) , hypertension, sleep apnea, atrial fibrillation, and also high cholesterol."

There have been a number of stories of the Apple Watch making owners aware of undiagnosed health conditions, with some crediting the Watch for saving their life..... iphone=1-life
