What happend to living in the moment???

in #health8 years ago (edited)

Some of you may have been 'lucky' enough to live in the 'old days'. The times when people seemed to be evolving at the same rate as their technology. The light bulb made the world feel brighter and the telephone made the world feel smaller.

However, can we honestly say that 'Social Media' has made us more social?' And that the Candy crush and FarmVille have made us closer to our friends?

Sure, we can use whatever website we so desire, the one we are currently using is not the only one that blocks the passage for advertisers, who groom your every move with their algorithms...

But as a social norm, the majority of people are allowing themselves to 'disconnect' with the real world, by staring at screens like zombies, scrolling for hours and absorbing quick, 5 second snippets of someone else's 1-dimensional self expression (or self indulgence, depending on the context ;D)...

As they willingly accept half a life, they capture their only precious remaining moments with a few clicks, exploiting them for all to see...

Seriously, what happend to living in the moment?...

Of course, there's a few reasons why we click that record button so often.
As a race, for hundreds or maybe even thousands of years, humans have loved the idea of owning memories of loved ones (or themselves) in a physical form.

Take Kings and Lords for example. In almost every Period Manor House or Castle/ Palace, an artist would be commissioned to paint the Lord of the house (aswell as the Lady and Children of the house in some cases).

The vanity of the human race is by all means, an imprint in our genes. An indescribable urge, for self acceptance through means of a mirror image or a self portrait/ selfie... And with it, coming the feeling of self confidence....

Until.... You use it too much.
And that's when the self doubt plays a part...

Considering Facebook is in its 12th year of existence, it's scary to think what comes next, once the over-informed are aware they are the ill-informed...

Will we one day get sick of staring at screens, will we ever click that power button for the last time, and say goodbye to it all, due to genuine Boredom?

Can they hook the generation after next with their antics? Or can we unstitch 'their' handy work, by reading the information that exploits the 'real' methods of advertising and blatant market monopolisation, in which we are so accustomed to.

We have the option to switch the power off, but instead, we switch off and let the phone take all the power.

Can you remember playing Eye-spy as a child?.... I assure you all, that becomes a thing or the past as soon as a child touches that screen.
Parents. It's alright to have 'quiet time' or 'naptime', you need a rest after working or looking after your child/ children.
However, if it gets to the point where you chuck them an iPad because it's easier than having them ask you about where babies come from, I think it's time you turned the f***er off ;)
