Sleep apnea - Sleep-Breath Disorder

in #health6 years ago

On the night of the 4.4 on 5.4.18 I had the opportunity to make a record of my sleep. I had a professional device from a leading manufacturer. Medical practitioners use such equipment for preliminary examination, the so-called Polygrapie.

The operation and handling of the device is simple. Two belt probes are placed around the abdomen and chest, as well as a nose probe and a finger sensor. The device starts automatically at a preset time.

We have programmed the device for sleep from 23:00 until the next morning 07:00 a.m. I then went to bed at around midnight, but this does not bother, since the beginning is detected as an artifact and thus does not affect the measurement.

The result is frustrating: ahi of 40.1.

The index ahi is used in sleep medicine to measure the severity of a sleep-related respiratory disorder alongside other features.

Ahi: Apnea Hypopnea Index
Apnea: AtemaussetzerHypopnoe: times with decreased respiratory flow

There is no uniform classification of the severity level. The AHI index is only a guideline for the classification of the severity level. A further examination in the Sleep Laboratory (polysomnography) is therefore always necessary.

Limit values (de)
' < 10: No findings
' 10-19: Further investigation recommended
' > 20: Further investigation strongly recommended

I share this with you today, because I work, among other things, to move in this area and now obviously count to the circle of those affected. There are many millions of people worldwide with the same problems. I also know that many people are unaware that they are suffering from sleep disorder. And here, age is only incidental. Many children and adults from all walks of business are affected.

Perhaps we can hold an open discussion here?
I would be happy about suggestions and tips.

Any technical advance in society is always positive!

You're absolutely right. About 25 years ago, we knew little about sleep diagnostics. Today, the most different algorithms are programmed into the devices, which effectively measure and control the different types of respiratory disorder. Thanks to the progress! Many lives were saved here.
