RE: Distilled water and mineral loss. Long term effects on the body. Best solutions.
My husband and I traveled for a year in our VW van using a Berkey water filter the whole time filling from streams. One of the best purchases we ever made. Still using it today ( :
Yes they are good. Berkey did have issues early on with the filters delaminating but they addressed that issue. I know people that just buy the filters and used five gallon buckets to save money and have more water storage. I use the half moon shaped ones that are silver impregnated. I found a site on Ebay that sells a kit with 3 filters, covers and scrubbing pads for around 80 Bucks. Not sure how long they last yet. Have to replace them when the ceramic wears down. Still on the first one for the past year but that's because we pre filter the water first. Thanks for your comment!
I'd never seen that half moon one before your post, I'll have to take a look. Definitely thought about doing the 5 gallon bucket way but I've never liked the taste of plastic on my water. Glass would be my material of choice... plus then we wouldn't have to always be checking how much water we've got! ( :
I just checked where I bought mine and they have really gone down in price. Here is a link to Emergency H20 on Ebay where I purchased what I have. Hope this helps!
