The importance of sleep can be overemphasized like the kid that skips school to sleep, but it's very important to stay healthy and fit. Humans are the only ones that can sleep at will.

āš  if it takes you less than 10 minutes to fall asleep, it means you're SLEEP DEPRIVED.
We require 7-9 hours everyday of sleep and if you play smart on your body and sleep less , then you create a SLEEP DEBT( the need to sleep) and this could be accumulated over time ( 2 weeks maybe more) . sleep debt must be paid back hour for hour and it won't matter if you sleep longer on weekends and shorter on week days. Basically we have 30 hours of consciousness as max. before sleep kicks in.

If you still doubt the importance of sleeping , know this, sleep deprivation affects the immune system ( you're at risk of falling ill), it affects wound healing , pain tolerance, shortens attention span, impairs memory and gives a grouchy mood. It affects your creativity as a person and your brain is the VICTIM of this mostly. Sleep derivation can actually shut down your brain and even cause hallucinations ( I've been here).

So don't listen to anyone trying to make you sleep less instead, choose a lifestyle change by

  1. Sticking to a sleep schedule even on weekends
  2. Avoid napping as it gives you more problems sleeping at night. 3. Manage your time well so you can have more sleep hours at night.

Sleep deprivation is bad for your health and you'll don't want to pay back debts you could have avoided by sleeping properly.
