Cocaine & heart attack...
Can an 18 year old have a heart attack? Certainly..
In my line of work, these past few years we have noted that more and more young men are being admitted with "heart attacks". More often, at the end of the week. One young man in his late 20s in particular was admitted in the hospital after bingeing on cocaine.
What does cocaine do to your body? Simplified it causes spasms in the heart arteries & make your blood prone to form a clot or clots. A deadly combination. Please do some research of your own as what I'm writing are just based from my experience at work. We know them as facts based from the findings after coronary angiograms.
A heart attack occurs when one or 2 or all of the coronary arteries are blocked, damaging the heart muscles due to the absence of blood supply. In cocaine, spasms in the affected artery cut off the blood flow to the muscles, causing ischemia if insufficient, or worst, a heart attack.
Literatures on heart attack are mostly from blockages due to calcifications of the arteries or arterial clots, which affect the older population of both sexes. Although in the past few years,heart attack patients seem to be getting younger and younger. With or without risk factors of heart disease.
Now with cocaine, it includes the younger population. This is not to alarm anyone but in my experience, all that were admitted were male. Anyone that's having chest pain on cocaine or after, dont worry about your moms but do call the ambulance. Paramedics can diagnose and give immediate treatment. Or they can always bring you to the nearest A&E or Heart Attack Centres for immediate management.
I am not an expert, but this is just to share my little knowledge and experiences in my line of work.

From calcified arteries yes..but now theyre getting younger and younger. The younger generation usually got smooth and normal coronaries, which is different with cocaine as it causes spasm that blocks the blood flow plus the effect of forming clots.

Cocaine is terrible stuff indeed.
People get so caught up in it and it's wide acceptance among our youth is a major problem.

It's the norm now. I dont think the majority are aware of this complication, the young and the adults alike. Education is preventative. With cocaine, a person need to stop using it to not ever experience such complication. A heart attack is quite serious..if it happens, then they are aware and be responsible for it.
