Peach Palm - Pejivalle - Bactris gasipaes

I have just been introduced to a fantastic fruit that tastes like artichoke but has more flesh!
Here is Costa Rica the locals call it Pejivalle the latin name is Bactris gasipaes and the common name in English is Peach Palm. This is the same palm that provides the nutrition "Heart of Palm" which is found in the inner core and growing bud of certain palm trees.
If you get the chance to try these fine fruits you will be amazed ... give them a 30 minute boiling in water with a smidgeon of salt then serve with butter & pepper - DELICIOUS!
