Good news for caffeine lovers, scientists have found that your morning cup of coffee is not only good for you - it could actually help you live longer! The biggest European study into coffee consumption revealed that 3 cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of death from all major causes. It was calculated that a daily cup extended a mans life by approximately 3 months, and a woman by approximately 1 month.

Another study conducted at Harvard University (2012) found a strong correlation between coffee consumption and a lowered risk of death via diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease and other conditions. The study involved more than 400,000 older men and women; it was found that drinking 2 or more cups of coffee a day equated to a 10% reduction in deaths from all causes among men and a 15% reduction among women, when compared to people who did not drink coffee. It is possible that certain compounds within coffee may have multiple health benefits. For example, the compound chlorogenic acid functions as an antioxidant, it also helps fight against cell injury.
