Most Teens Aren't Active Enough

A study, conducted in the United States on a sample of over 10,000 people, revealed that physical activity levels of young people are comparable to those of 60-year-olds.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day for children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 years.

Because the best times for physical activity were in the afternoon between 14.00 and 18.00, it might be useful to change the pupils' school curriculum.

Young people have become more sedentary and addicted to technology to the detriment of physical activity.

Among the main reasons why young people do not participate in physical activities, are:

  • families spend a lot of time watching television;
  • young people prefer to play video games in their free time;
  • more and more people use personal cars and public transport instead of bicycles or walking;
  • extracurricular activities are too expensive or there is not enough time in the day to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

I think something should change in schools to make PE actually enjoyable and useful and with parents mindset, to encourage their children to exercise more.

Another impact is the less time of parents, because both works, and probably for a lot of hours, or in turns that don't combine, with the needs of carry children to sport activity, and big cities are more dangerous, probably, than 40 years ago, so less children left alone to play each other in courtyards. My 0.02$.... :)

Actually so shocking how kids just sit like couch potatos these days

That's really help!

They are glued to their phones. Hang phone on back of a car and drive around. They will run for miles.

I thing this is because of technology.

The danger is clear and present: the new generation is, well, degenerating physically.

Great post, i completely agree especially now in the summer time teens need to get out and participate in activities more and more.

Sad to admit but I made the list too.
