  2. Disease-modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (DMARDs): This group of medications prevents the joints from permanent damage and preserves the function and structure of the joints. Some commonly used DMARDs drugs are methotrexate (Trexall), sulfasalazine (Azulfidine), hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), azathioprine (Imuran).
  3. Corticosteroids: These drugs including cortisone and prednisone are used to reduce inflammation and to slow joint damage. Because of their risks of side-effects such as kidney, liver and heart problems , these drugs should be taken under a doctor's instruction.
  4. Biologic Response Modifiers: These medications naturally produced from human body improves the quality of immune system to be able to defense our body from diseases like cancer and arthritis.
