How to prevent "Cot Death"?

What is Cot Death?

According to Wikipedia, cot death is the sudden unexplained death of a child less than one year of age. Other names of cot death are Sudden Infant Death Syndrome(SIDS) and Crib death.

This is one of the unfortunate incidences which turn the world of a parent upside down and brings great sorrow for the whole family. So every measure should be taken to avoid such event. You will find some advice below which must be kept in mind.

Stop smoking during pregnancy
Don't allow anyone to smoke in the same room where you keep your infant
At the time of sleep, put your baby in his/her back, not on chest
Be careful that your baby doesn't become too hot
Keep your kid's head uncovered and keep an eye to prevent wriggling down the covers
Keep the baby cot in your own bedroom, especially in first 6 months
Do not share a bed with your kid if either parent -
* is a smoker
* drinking alcohol
* very tired before sleeping
* takes any medications which might make him/her drowsy
Do not sleep with your kid on a sofa or armchair or settee
