"Walter Yu" is known for having been the first to undergo cosmetic surgery in modern history after suffering an accident that disfigured his face when he was a sailor in the British Army during the First World War.

"Walter Yu" was 25 years old when he suffered an injury that caused his upper eyelids and lower eyelids to fall. Sir Harold Gillis, the "father of modern plastic surgery," worked on to replace them with artificial eyelids. After the operation, he seemed to put a mask on his eyes from the skin. Where the operation never succeeded in restoring the original shape, but at least lived until he died in his 70s in 1960.
Of course, the outcome of the surgery seems to have been totally unsuccessful, but at the time it was classified as a medical miracle.
