Natures Way To Avoid Pain Relievers On The Homestead

in #health7 years ago (edited)

Pain is real in the life of all of us at one time or the other. So when that headache or muscle pain arrives, what do we do? Many of us have chosen to live as close to the land as possible.  We may have lots of land or only a little, but whatever we have, we use. It does not matter if you have a small urban homestead, or a major spread in Alaska, homesteading is a way of life. The goal is simple, grow as much as you possiblely can and live off what you grow as much as possible. Do everything that you can for yourself and barter services with others if need be. Life is simple on the homestead. Most of us try to avoid buying anything that we do not have to buy and that includes pain relievers.

So what do we reach for when that headache arrives?  Realizing that we are not doctors, we do not fail to consult our doctors about our choices. That is the number one rule. Having said that, we can learn that Lavender, Frankincense, and peppermint are our best friends for warding off headaches. But how do we use them?  If you have a good herb garden, you most likely will dry your herbs for spices and teas in their seasons. Another form you can utilize are essential oils. Essential Oils are consentrated herbs and if you have them on hand, they usually act faster. But there are times when a simple cup of tea would be good also. Learn to know your body and what works for you, but always remember to talk to your doctor if trying something new. I like to diffuse essential oils and often put resin in my resin burner. There are many ways of using these natural oils and resins. The main thing is to find what works for you and to consult your doctor before you use something new.

The main herbs for headaches are Lavender, Peppermint, and Frankincense. How and what form you use is up to you. There is a time and place for fresh herbs, teas, and essential oils. Learn what works for you and then go from there.

The main herbs for muscle pain and joint pain are peppermint, turmeric, ginger, Wintergreen, and PanAway Essential Oil. There again, study and learn what works for your muscles. Once you know what works for you, then you can always be prepared.

Arthritis pain is often very unique and seems to respond best to PanAway Essential Oil, turmeric, ginger, Rosemary, Frankincense, and Marjoram.

As a general pain reliever, I find that Frankincense, turmeric, ginger, and Peppermint work for most pain. Lemongrass is excellent for tendons and also can be used on youth if diluted well. It seems to work well for growing pains.

There is nothing worse than tooth pain. Clove, Cinnamon if diluted, Lavender, and  Helichrysum Essential Oils are everyones favorites. Cinnamon is a hot oil and you muct dilute it with a carrier oil before putting on your gums. I use the others neat or straight. If you have sencetive skin, you may not be able to use them neat. This is why you must always consult your doctor. Also, if taking other medicines, some could react with the herbs. Your doctor would be best at making sure that you did not use a herb that causes blood pressure to rise, for example. It is always best to check things out ahead of time, then you can try several and see what work for you.

Pure essential oils and herbs are safe and effective. They work if used right. Study the oil you want to use and consult your doctor before beginning something new.

This is a simple guide as put out by several doctors that practice alternitive medicine and believe in the healing power of herbs. Use it as a steping stone, study, ask questions, and consult your own doectors.

Exchellent job dear @floridagypsy :)

Wow, peppermint... it's not just for freshening breath!

I use peppermint for many things. Just never use on small children. Only a few oils are safe with little children.

I hear peppermint is an effective mouse deterrent, too.

I use peppermint, cederwood, tea tree, and Eucalyptus for different insects. My house is critter free.

I doubt I could find tea tree or Eucalyptus here in Iowa.

I have them all on my website. youngliving.org/floridagypsy if you can not find them. My member number/sponcer number is 3565508. I also do alot of classes on how to use the oils.

I keep my house spider free with pepermint. Other insects respond to other oils.
