Can you imagine spending 13 of your waking hours sitting? 


For most of the western world, this is a reality according to (Cordoza and Starrett, 2016). When you analyze your day, it starts to make sense. 

1. Sit eating breakfast

2. Sit on your way to work, school, etc.

3. Sit at work, school, etc.

4. Sit on your way back home. 

5. Sit for dinner

6. Sit and socialize, consume media, study, etc. 

The bottom line is that it is really easy to accumulate these hours seated. As mentioned in my previous post; the world has become more automated. The need for physical labors has diminished. If we need water, open the tap. Transport requires little effort. Heck, even our food is delivered to us.

This ease of living has provided many free hours. The way we have chosen to spend the spare time is by sitting and increasing our knowledge and mental skills. We are forever consuming literature, media and other forms of information. Modern jobs require more knowledge and less physical capabilities. 


We are advancing our brains way faster than our bodies.


What people don’t realize is that the mind and body form a complete system. These two parts thrive when they are in balance with one another. If we focus too much time on one piece, we develop a level of disconnect. When disconnected for a sustained period, the neglected part starts deteriorating. 

In our case, a multitude of possible ailments will arise in the body. Back problems are one of the more common structural issues we are likely to face. 

In the next post, I will start explaining how sitting is particularly bad on the back.

Maybe you have a point. I'm sensitive to this point because I just bought running shoes. but it doesn't look like the human brain is expanding in its capabilities. My grandpa always said: sitting is for shitting.

I totally agree with you. In modern life we sit far too much. people need to get moving...
