Simple Weight Loss Tips - Tip #2 Limit Your Salt Intake

in #health7 years ago (edited)

Salt has a very important role in our bodies. Table salt, or by its chemical name - Sodium, plays a part in all the processes that happen inside our body on a cellular level.

Consuming the right amount of salt is critical for our health and is crucial for weight management.

I want to share some guidelines to help you regulate your salt intake making you healthier and leaner.

This is the second post in the series and if you seriously want to loss weight and feel better start with my first post and Drink enough water

Why is it important to eat the right amount?

In the past salt was an important strategic commodity largly because deficiency in Sodium can be extremly dangerous and can lead to death; nutrients and water simply can't enter the cells.
At some point, salt was even used as a currency to pay for services.

Today, though, a deficiency in Sodium is incredibly rare, and almost everyone in the western world suffers from the exact opposite problem - consuming too much salt.

The ideal daily amount of Sodium recommended by The American Heart Association is 1500 mg. The average American consumes 3400 mg every day which is more than double the recommended amount.

A high Sodium intake has some serious consequences. Any excess Sodium in the body is regarded as poison, and like any poison the body retains water in order to try and dilute it.
This increases the blood pressure and creates overall stress on the body.

Where is all the salt coming from?

You would think you would probably notice that your eating to much salt, everything would be salty. That is not the case, the modern food industry uses salt to enhance different tastes and big amounts of salt are hiding in almost all the processed foods we consume.

Moreover, without even noticing it,we very often add salt to our food as a habit without even tasting it first. As I said before this creates long term health issues that can be very serious like high blood pressure and kidney failure.

How to control the amount of salt we consume?

If you follow a couple of simple guidelines you cab easily lower the amount of Sodium in a matter of days giving you a visible effect in a couple of days.

Always check the labels

When you go shopping for groceries, stop and check the nutritional facts of the product before you put it inside the cart.

Notice the amount of Sodium stated on the label and look for the product with the lowest amount of Sodium possible.

Usually the least salty one will be the overall better quality product.

Stop adding extra salt

It is very common that when you sit at the table you reach your hand towards the salt shaker and add salt to the dish you are about to eat.
This is a habit you develop that makes your mind think that adding salt will make any dish taste better.

Simply stop doing that. When you stop adding salt it will take your taste buds a couple of weeks to get used to the different taste, but once you do you will never want to add salt again.

Use better salt

There are different types of salt you can use and they are very different in quality. The regular white table salt is the worst of the bunch just Sodium chemically treated and refined.

Do yourself good and buy pink Himalayan salt that has better composition and is naturally occurring. If it is hard to come by then buy any natural occurring salt you do have access to.

Conclusion

Use these tips to control the amount of salt you consume and you will start feeling much better, stronger and lighter in a matter of days.

Just remmember that you do need salt in the body (especially if you do sports) and that you should listen to your bidy if you feel simething is wrong.

Thank you for your time.

With love.

Very informative article thank you for sharing kryptonia username @duquejunalyn

It's good to see your health tips here. I lost "half my size" a few years ago and keep it off with no trouble now. I don't eat any processed food at all and do have to add sodium. I am sure to get the "good" salt that is not iodized. Apparently that iodizing stuff is not from a healthy source. I have about four types of salt now and it's amazing how different they all taste.

I'm coming to you from @kyrptonia with the same user name.

It is great that you are taking care of your body

This is awesome!
