The Beetroot Juice
Beetroot. It perhaps sounds like Beatrus, well this is not the name of the person you know, but the name of a root plant, which expert now hails as wonder plant. Also called “beet”, or its botanical name Beta Vulgaris, it is a plant in the beet root family.
But this obviously is not the news of beetroot. The news is the juice from the plant has been shown to have the capability to help reduce blood pressure in human beings. The juice as reported in Journal of Applied Physiology, “has the ability to reduce the oxygen uptake to a degree that cannot be achieved by any other means”. This effect of this is that human body cells are enabled to maximize oxygen through the intake of beetroot juice. IMG
What seems to impressed the researcher is that the eight men used in the study(aged between 19 and 38) drank about 500 millimeters a day of beetroot juice, their stamina was boosted. They were made to complete series of test on an exercise bike. It was discovered that their performance in the cycling test was impressive as against when the test was conducted on them without having taken the juice.
The researcher believe that beetroot juice boosted their stamina, and would be of great help to long distance athletes. The juice contains nitrates. When nitrate inter the body cells, its converted to nitrite, which trigger the production of nitric oxide. This oxide has chemical component that help dilate the blood vessel. “we were amazed by the effect of beetroot on uptake of oxygen because these effects cannot be achieved by any other known means, including training,” said Andy Jones, a professor of health sciences.
So just look around you, BEETROOT might just be lying fallow, waiting to be exploited.
