Tree of raihan ( Ocimum basillicum)
Tree of raihan, or basil is a very useful plant in our life, this plant is very much planted in my yard, in Aceh, which is often used by my parents for various needs, especially for traditional herbs.
Basil is a member of the family Lamiaceae, which means a group of plants that have lipped flowers. The plant is closely related to Mint leaf (Mentha arvensis). Some relatives of basil include leaf-wake plants aka cumin leaves (Coleus amboinicus). This basil plant which then decreases the various varieties of basil.
Basil in taxonomy including Ocimum clan which has 50-150 species spread from tropical region of Asia, Africa to Central America and South America. Of the many types of Ocimum, it is only a few who have become a commodial commodity such as Ocimum basillicum, Ocimum sanctum, Ocimum gratisimum, Ocimum americanum, and several other types.
According to research, this plant has many benefits, such as;
- Eliminate the smell of sweat
- Overcoming bad breath
- Treating collagen
- Vomiting / diarrhea
- sprue
