And who are they?

Alimenta la Solidaridad Maracay, is a food plan for children in a critical state of nutrition due to the food crisis in our country, seeking to sow the value of solidarity in all people who want to be part of the project. An initiative promoted in the city of Maracay-Estado Aragua (Venezuela) by Deputy José Ramón with the aim of feeding underprivileged and malnourished children.

The programme includes feeding children who are in school but who are critically malnourished. To identify them, an anthropometric evaluation (height and weight) of the children of the community of "La Maracaya" was planned in the "Los Samanes" area of our city of Maracay, together with a medical team led by high-performance, large-hearted pediatricians who contributed to this strenuous task together with nutritionists.

After this, a study of each of the results was carried out in front of a medical committee made by themselves, where the results showed that sadly, 100% of the children evaluated do not have fat mass or sustenance that would allow them to sustain a near future referring to diseases no matter how benevolent they may be. Slightly more than 90% of cases with hernias and cavities also occur.

Donations from all over Venezuela were received quickly, and a plan was immediately established to create a dining room that would work through the voluntary participation of community members. Many neighbors decided to collaborate and others from outside brought food to supply a population of approximately 55 children.

More and more hands are joining hands to help this noble cause where the future of these children depends on a good diet. What is malnutrition?

Malnutrition is a pathological condition of varying degrees of severity and different clinical manifestations caused by poor food assimilation in the body.

Malnutrition can be caused by poor nutrient intake or absorption, as well as by an inappropriate diet such as hypokaloric or hypo-protein diet (the latter being the most common). It has an influence on the social or psychiatric conditions of those affected. It occurs frequently among low-income individuals and mainly among children in underdeveloped countries.

The difference between this and malnutrition is that in malnutrition there is a deficiency in the intake of calories and protein, while in malnutrition there is a deficiency, excess or imbalance in the intake of one or more nutrients that the body needs (example: vitamins, iron, iodine, calories, among others). Malnutrition is totally unfavourable to any child, the insufficient supply of calories and vitamins causes complications in them that are often irreversible. Growth slows down, muscles atrophy, skin and hair become vulnerable and their defenses against microorganisms become vulnerable. On the other hand, any disease has a worse impact than in a well-nourished child, in fact they behave as immunosuppressed by low protein and vegetable requirements.

The social environment of an undernourished child is usually one where the economic development of the family nucleus is null or scarce, often there is the absence of either parent or they do not have the support of a relative, so their psychological development is also altered. On the other hand, although schooling is free in our country, it is inefficient for the educational growth of minds with nutritional deficits.

The personality of these children as they develop is totally different from that of a well-nourished child, as a malnourished child usually becomes more aggressive and often commits acts that become illicit over time.

Then, we contacted the Foundation where after asking about the most necessary requirements of the children they told us about the need for vegetables, fruits and vegetables. So we took on the task of shopping at the supermarket just enough to have what we needed on the table: Bananas, potatoes, carrots, cassava, celery, parsley, chili, plantain, melons, papaya and eggs were the purchases made that day for the children. Enough for a good soup to give them strength during the day.

It was a pleasant moment when they were given and then finally taken to the children of the community, these gestures always fill our hearts with joy, they are capable of changing lives. Thanks to Steemit and @lrd we were able to change the lives of these little children, little by little we will be more people for a good cause.
