I actually need to try this, can it be done for more than 5 minutes?
Because I want to start being mindful, I am a type that always shies away from negativity.

You can do it for 10 or 15 minutes, of course, but I recommend starting with 5 for the first time, it will be enough. In time it will help you to deal with the current situation better, no matter what the situation is. When we shy away from negativity, we shy away in general and cannot be present completely even in the positive situations.
