One of the ways we become more independent from control, is the ability to provide for yourself.
The ability to grow your own food, make your own medicine, provide your own protection, are essential to living a truly free life.
Not everyone has land or access to natural resources, I understand this. When I lived in the city I found ways to continue my desire to maintain my skill set by gardening off my balcony. There are many resources available to help you achieve this. The other day I went to my local pharmacy and found an amazing array of pots that would work perfectly for container gardening off a balcony!

Start off small if you are new, the point is to start somewhere. What matters is that you have started.

These style of pots are great for growing a variety of leafy greens including kale, lettuce, spinach and mustard greens.

These are great for utilizing your balcony railing and allowing for more sunlight to get to your veggies!

One of the things that you must ascertain before hand, is the weight limit of your balcony. You will need to use a lighter weight soil and more peralyte vs sand as sand weighs more. Perlite is a type of volcanic rock, when heated to between 1600-2000 degrees it “pops” and can increase its size anywhere between 4-20x’s. It them becomes a form of lightweight glass and is non toxic.
When you become more adept and comfortable you can get small standing greenhouses that fit perfectly on your deck and allow you to expand your abilities.

Depending on the weight capacity of your deck you can use an extra large pot to grow potatoes in. Place 2-3 inches of soil in your large pot, plant your potatoes, and once they start to grow add a little bit of dirt at a time. As they grow up and you keep adding dirt, they will keep making potatoes in each layer. You can grow close to 50# of potatoes in a large pot.

My goal is to help everyone who wants to learn, that it is not impossible to grow your own herbs, veggies and produce, right where you are!
