What is "black henna"?

Black "henna" is a cocktail of chemicals, it is sold as henna, and it might contain some henna in it, but henna, will never leave a black stain on your skin. The pigment that gives black henna it's color is the highly toxic para-phenylenediamine, also known as PPD.
PPD is found in black hair dye, in low concentrations (3%) as it can cause many health problems, but when it comes to black "henna" the regulations do not exist and crazy amount of PPD (as 40%) can be found in the so called black "henna"... and that is too much, in contact with your skin, PPD can cause : scarring, blisters, burns, and it is a potential carcinogen.

Black "henna" scars

The skin is the largest organ in the human body, that's why whatever you apply on it, will be absorbed by it and go to your blood stream. That is why it is very important that you stay away from any chemical henna, or industrialized henna.
Here's some picture of what "black henna" can do to you.

How to recognize black "henna" from Real Henna?

As you might have noticed real henna looks almost black when the paste is applied, but then the paste falls off, leaving a stain that darkens within 48-72 hours. It is very important that whenever you get a henna tattoo, you ask the artist what it is on their paste, natural henna artists will be happy to tell you all the ingredients in their paste, for example I mix my paste with: henna powder, lemon juice (or water), sugar and lavender essential oil. A real henna artist should tell you what is in their paste.

Abrazo!

Saludos!!!

Feliz semana guapa @danilamarilu ;)

@itsmein3d yes, chemically adulterated henna can cause really bad health problems!

That looks painful! Thanks for this information. I think everyone assumes henna is the "safe" tattoo... but it might not be!

Henna is safe, but when it's homemade from the leaves of the henna plant 🌱🌿🍃. Black henna and any henna that stains the skin dark right away can cause these type of scars unlike natural henna that is one of the oldest cosmetics in the planet.

Understood. Thanks for the details!

Thank you for reading my post @theoriginalkage :)
