Pollution is estimated to cause 16% of early deaths globally

in #health7 years ago (edited)

In a new article we get a statistic which declares 16% of deaths globally are caused by pollution. This is because pollution triggers various diseases some of which are obvious like asthma but others perhaps less obvious. Poorer countries are at greater risk of death due to pollution as well. If we look in the United States we have the flint water crisis as an example of lead pollution being in the water supply which also is neurotoxic which means it can disrupt or damage the developing brains of children.

Some believe in climate change while others claim it is a hoax. What matter is that pollution reduces both quality and quantity of lifespan and it's not in the best interest of the majority of people to ignore this.

To prevent pollution, decisions must be made at the level of each country. It is important to breathe clean air for our health

everything is poisoned... our food chain and oceans too... that is what happens when people follow the money, it creates a selfish system at the expense of many. I blog a lot about it

The earth is a gift and for every gift there are responsibilities attached to it. Lets take care of the earth by avoiding pollution.

It would be equally important to know how much of that is just air pollution, and not:

  • Fresh water pollution
  • Oceanic pollution
  • Soil pollution
  • Animal & Wildlife pollution and disease
  • ...and more.

I guess what goes up, must come down. So first we pollute the air, and then everything else including water, and animals, and soil too.

Just the other day I heard about a Burger King restaurant on Youtube that was dumping their fryer grease down a sewer drain on a regular basis. Where do they think all that old oil goes after they dump it?

and until people wake up, we'll continue to destroy LIFE...

AL GORE'S carbon foot print system that is supposed to address climate change is a 15 TRILLION industry.. but the problem: one does not see carbon with naked eyes, so the carbon industry has now become a giant scam... the latest carbon foot print hoax cost EU 5 billions of euros, and was called the heist of the century... always follow the money... I blog a lot about it and money itself is the problem

I'm saddened with all the bad affect modernization has brought to our daily lives, in contrary on giving us the convenient living it also did bring us to a very bad state of well being. With all those diseases nowadays! The next generation will suffer more with this case. I am with you as you promote healthy and clean environment to all!

modernization has nothing to do but following the money... corporations want profit and everybody wants t get rich, so anybody within the system is working toward the end of civilization, I blog a lot about it. we need a BOLD solution... money itself is the problem

I would have love to see how they came to those numbers. The paper is in a high castle.

Global burden of disease estimates have found that exposure to household air pollution due to cooking on inefficient biomass stoves led to an estimated 4.3 million deaths in 2012.

So according to this WHO stats around 50% of this 16% death rate is cause by pollution due to cooking on inefficient biomass stoves yet this most important stats isn't even mentioned in the summary provided by sciencedaily.

Does the study come to other conclusion than stats provided by the WHO? If it's the case then I feel like the summary should also mention this fact.

The amount of exposure in terms of the number of people, exposure intensity and time spent exposed is far greater in the developing world (Smith, 1993); approximately 76% of all global particulate matter air pollution occurs indoors in the developing world (Figure 1).

The WHO don't provide their sources. I don't know where their numbers come from.

According to the Global Burden of Disease Report, household air pollution is the leading cause of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) in Southeast Asia and the third leading cause of DALYs globally.

Global burden of disease estimates have found that exposure to HAP from cooking results in around 4 million premature deaths, with the most recent estimates from WHO reporting 4.3 million deaths for 2012.

I do find the report from sciencedaily to be somewhat misleading. When I first saw those kind of studies a couple while ago about pollution killing so many people, HAP wasn't the first thing that came to my mind and only through some random chance did I came by the information HAP was actually the leading cause of the wider problem of death caused pollution.

Whether intentional or not I find it absurdly poor reporting. I've seen those kind of studies covered poorly many times by many sources.

if you want REAL data, wander my blog... earth is being poisoned as if there is no tomorrow for the sake of profits. And people do not really care because they are too busy to make ends meet, or chasing money to get richer. This report is not even telling the truth, it is A LOT worse... A LOT WORSE... Indonesia fires release more pollution than the entire world combined every year for the sake of palm oil... and I could go on and on... my blog has all the data and offers a bold solution

here is a starter... what is the death rate linked to eating sea foods???

Obama administration OK's dumping 76 billion gallons of wastewater into Gulf of Mexico IN JUST 2014 ALONE

I totally agree with this. I'm vegan and being vegan is the action anyone can take that will reduce their pollution footprint the most. This is true for most people. There is some exception to this.

My point wasn't about this or question the fact that Earth is being used by the ruling elite for other reasons than people's well being.

Curbing the menace of pollution is directly related to our lifestyle. We have had champions of Global Warming who lecture the whole world about the ill effects of global warming but fly in personal jets. There's so much of hypocrisy in the world and not just pollution :/

true but the real problem is even more scary... it is the quest for profits... nobody will profit from earth unless one wants to destroy life itself... i blog a lot about it

That's why people keep asking the general public to use this less, waste that less and send them on a guilt trip where as the real culprits associate themselves with one Corporate Social Responsibility and tend to wash-off their hands whereas the real problem remains un-answered.

Really very cool post and knowledgeable love it

Love the creativity! best wishes.
