Hesperidin and it's possible benefits

What is Hesperidin?

Hesperidin is a water insoluble flavonoid. In specific it is a bioflavonoid related to citrus.

The three flavonoid classes above are all ketone-containing compounds, and as such, are anthoxanthins (flavones and flavonols). This class was the first to be termed bioflavonoids. The terms flavonoid and bioflavonoid have also been more loosely used to describe non-ketone polyhydroxy polyphenol compounds which are more specifically termed flavanoids. The three cycle or heterocycles in the flavonoid backbone are generally called ring A, B and C. Ring A usually shows a phloroglucinol substitution pattern.

Bioflavonoids tend to be in the skin of fruits such as citrus. Orange peels would contain the "most good part" of the orange if you're trying to get the flavonoids value. The video below shows how to extract hesperidin from orange peels:

Possible benefits of hesperidin

  • Improvement in brain circulation
  • Decreases inflammation (measured by c reactive protein)
  • Mild decrease in biomarker associated with heart disease (measured by ApoB)

In the previous post it was asked how can someone decrease ApoB? It appears that hesperidin is a supplement which might (and I stress might) reduce ApoB. It's currently backed by high quality studies providing evidence of this effect.
