Is it advisable to take painkillers?

Pain is something that we do not want to feel because it is affecting us negatively in many ways from slight discomfort to a torturing agony. So it is sometimes better to take some painkillers if the pain is lingering and intense. There are different kinds of painkillers and I will just tell you a few and it's side effects.

Generally, it is not advisable to take any painkiller for a long-term. One example is the opioid type along with it's synthetic counterparts. They are expensive but powerful pain killers, they give you relief but like any other medicines, unpleasant or serious side-effects aswell like constipation which will give you a hard time in the toilet relieving yourself from last night's dinner along with a thought of regret on why did you took that little seemingly harmless pill.

Opioids also causes addiction because the body gets tolerant with the drug that it will make you require to add more tablet or pill to your daily regimen so that you will feel the same painkilling effect. This is dangerous because although you will not feel the same effect and you had taken so much, the result will be an overdosage and it will cause a possible death.

Those are just two side effects of that particular painkiller but it has many more. The other type of a pain killer which I sometimes use is the NSAIDs or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. It is a type of a very acidic painkiller that is only used for a short period of time because it causes an ulceration of the stomach and intestines. It also causes kidney damage.

I have known some friends who died by taking it but they took it for an extended period of time, a misuse. My other friend suffered from bleeding stomach and kidney failure at the same time. They took the medicine on a regular basis like M&Ms and because the medicine is so acidic that it hurted their bodies, had made more harm than good. NSAIDs should be taken with a full meal and not longer than 2 weeks but sometimes a pill or two can already hurt your stomach. If it does then take some precautions or stop.

The most common pain killer in use, at least in my country is the acetaminophen or paracetamol. It is also used for milder pain like common headaches and most especially for fever. It is safe to use in prescribed amounts but this type of a pain killer damages the liver. 20 grams of this medicine will cause the liver cells to die so in a few days after ingesting it, the individual will show signs of a liver failure.

In conclusion, painkillers are all safe, it only must be used in a correct manner as not to make any unnecessary additional problems for the patients that will cause them some extra ailment or even their lives. Remember, most doctors doesn't explain the possible long-term effects of these drugs and sometimes it is not even necessary to take them, so knowing about what the medicine is about and how to take it will protect us so that it will serve us the way it supposed to.
