Sick gums!
Did you know that some diseases cause bleeding in our gums at the time of our brushing?
As for example gingivitis or gum disease, it is the inflammation of the tissues that surround the teeth and is mostly commonly as a result of the lack of dental hygiene. It is characterized by red, inflamed gums that bleed easily when brushing teeth or flossing. Gingivitis is not the same as periodontal disease, although sometimes a person can be affected by both at the same time.
Gingivitis begins with food remnants mixed with saliva and bacteria, forming plaque that can stick to the surfaces of the teeth. If the gingivitis is not treated, it can spread from the gums to the bone and this leads to periodontitis. When the underlying bone becomes infected, it will move away from the teeth and gum pockets. These bags are plate and bacteria accumulations because they are very difficult to keep clean.
If this happens to us what can we do?
The best thing would be for the dentist to perform a professional dental cleaning in order to eliminate the bacterial plaque and all the accumulated tartar. Only in those cases of advanced periodontitis, a surgical intervention may be necessary to clean the deeper deposits of bacterial plaque.
In addition to the dental procedure, to cure inflamed gums is very important to maintain good oral hygiene habits, carrying out practices such as the following:
• Brush your teeth after eating with a soft bristle brush and a toothpaste that incorporates fluoride into your formula.
• Floss once a day.
• Use mouthwashes that help reduce swelling of the gums.
It is important to change dentifrice and dental mouthwash if sensitivity to these products is observed. Likewise, it is also essential to drink plenty of water during the day to favor the elimination of bacterial plaque and protect the health of the gums.
