An Answer to a Prevalent Health Problem -- The Shortage of Suitable Donor Lungs ??

in #health6 years ago

Another one...

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is at it again folks. Last time, I presented an article on Tissue Nanotransfection, which can be found here if you missed it. This time around, however, it's a relatively new process called Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion.

The Comprehensive Transplant Center at Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center is the first health care center in all of Ohio to test this new medical process known as Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion, or EVLP for short.

EVLP is a mechanical operating system that actually respirates, warms, nourishes and repairs donor lungs outside (hence the ex-vivo) of the human body.

This process will ultimately allow for and improve upon the overall likelihood that the donor organ will, in fact, be able to be utilized in a lifesaving transplant operation.

Current Shortage of Donor Lungs Available

This process is really something quite special for the world of medicine because there is often times a relative imbalance between the number of suitable donor lungs available and the increasing number of patients in need of a lifesaving transplant. This overall disparity ultimately reflects upon the effects we have and continue to see with wait-list mortality rates.

As a direct result of this, EVLP is emerging as a potential alternative to help combat this growing issue. With such preservation properties of this particular process, more accurate lung assessment and overall improvement of lung function may very well be yielded as a result.

Cheers to more medical breakthroughs here at my home institution!!

Technology is growing by leaps and bounds...10 to 20 years all diseases will be cured with nanotech!

Yes, it is crazy how much technology is advancing, by the day it seems like... CRISPR-Cas 9 genomic sequencing and molecular diagnostic tests are on the forefront as of now and then nanotech is just going to wipe out everything in existence.

It will be interesting to see just how much things change over the course of my lifetime, putting into perspective just how much potential we have as the human race.

Cheers mate!!

Hello @conradsuperb and guests of this blog! Please read my massage only if you have an opportunity to help me out.

Last month my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and now we are doing all in order to gather the funds needed for treatment and surgical operation. Unfortunately a major part of my cryptocurrecy stuck on HitBTC exchange and I don’t know when I will be able to withdraw them. I want to ask you to financially help me; even $20 will help my family a lot! Sorry for begging, but sadly I have no choice at the moment.

Please donate me with Steem, SBD, of Ethereum. ETH address:

sorry to hear about this man, unfortunately I am going to have to pass as I have many expenses I must take care of on my end pertaining to student loans. I wish I could help you out, but sometimes you have to take care of yourself first.

Wishing you the best of luck
