Coconut Oil: Why It Is Called A Superfood

in #health7 years ago

Whether you believe it or not, coconut oil is one of the healthiest superfoods you can safely ingest without having to worry about overdosing. Don’t believe it? Well, the reasons are quite obvious. It offers amazing benefits, not only for your stomach, but for your whole body. But what is a superfood?

Superfood – The Definition

A superfood is basically a term used to describe those foods that offer plenty of health benefits. It is considered essential for the health as it helps relieve and prevent certain medical conditions. Then again, most of the effects of these foods are not yet supported by scientific studies.

Reasons to Call Coconut Oil a Superfood

Here is a list of benefits from coconut oil to prove what was just stated.

1. It treats damaged hair.

Lack of protein in the hair can cause it to become weak. But with the application of coconut oil, dry and frizzy hair doesn’t stand a chance. This oil has the ability to prevent protein loss, making the hair healthier and shinier.

2. It boosts energy levels.

Coconut oil is a great source of medium-chain triglyceride fatty acids or MCTs. Since they are shorter, they don’t have to be processed by the gall bladder and the liver. So when you consume it, energy levels are immediately boosted.

3. It aids in the weight loss process.

Consuming coconut oil is the easiest way to lose weight. The logic is simple. When you ingest it, you feel full. Therefore, your food intake will become minimal.

4. It stops the appearance of acne.

Due to the antimicrobial properties of coconut oil, acne is prevented. Better yet, it is healed. Thanks to the Lauric acid found in this superfood, bacteria in the oil glands of the skin are killed.

5. It prevents tooth decay.

Coconut oil has been used as an additive in toothpastes and mouthwashes because of its ability to ward off bacteria that are responsible for tooth decay.

Other Superfoods

Aside from coconut oil, there are many other superfoods in the market today. These include:

1. Broccoli

Broccoli is tagged as a superfood for one good reason. It has cancer-fighting compounds and lots of essential nutrients needed by the body – vitamin C and K, as well as fiber.

2. Kale

Leafy greens like Kale are definitely worth adding to your diet. In just 3 cups, you get 100% of your daily nutritional requirement for vitamin A, C, E, and K.

3. Blueberries

Rich in micronutrients like vitamin B and C, fiber, and manganese, blueberries have the ability to free the body of toxins that cause damage inside the body.

4. Kiwi

With its benefits similar to berries and citrus fruits, it’s no wonder why kiwi is also on top of the list of the most opted superfoods. Also, perhaps because it helps promote a good night’s sleep because of its serotonin content.

5. Nuts

Nuts contain high levels of healthy fats and minerals, but they’re high in calories. Still, they can be consumed. Just remember that moderation is the key. How can an ingredient, often neglected in the kitchen, be so useful? Are you now convinced to give coconut oil a try? Promise, you won’t regret it!
