Many people use different kind of beauty products just to get that youthful look or to let their skin and body stay young. Some opt for a more natural way of maintaining that healthful glow. Everyone wants to grow old gracefully.
To maintain a desired skin glow, one must look into the type of food they are eating as well as the ingredient and the nutrients they contain.

Antioxidant is known to be one of the food nutrients needed by our body. It is being used in hand cream products, supplement pills, and other medicines. We even read about antioxidants on magazines or on medical journals.
What are antioxidants? What can they do to our body?

Antioxidants are substance that can fight the aging process that is happening into our body. It neutralizes harmful compounds or prevents free radical that can damage the living cells of our body. Once the antioxidants and free radicals are combined and neutralized, it will no longer do any damage.

The result of antioxidants can be visible and invisible. The development or growth of disease to our body like arthritis, cancer, neurological deficiencies, and diabetes may begin, as we get older. We can also get some problem on our skin like thinner wrinkles. Cigarette smokes, UV rays from the sun, and radiations are outside source of free radicals that enters our body. There is a greater damage inside and outside our body when we encounter more free radicals.
Accordingly, scientist doesn’t have any idea if there should be an exact dose of antioxidant a person can take daily. However, they reassure that eating foods that is rich with antioxidants will make a good difference in our body.

What are the antioxidant’s dietary sources?

• VITAMIN E. As antioxidant, it will protect the heart from diseases and it will strengthen our immune system. Great source of vitamin E includes sunflower seeds and wheat germ oil.
• Vitamin C. It is also called as ascorbic acid. It will prevent cancers from the pancreas, throat, mouth, and stomach. It will also prevents cataract and oxidation of LDL cholesterol. Vitamin C lowers the risk of heart diseases. Oranges, broccoli, strawberries, and Brussels sprouts are example of foods that are high in Vitamin C.
• Beta- carotene. It is an antioxidant that is present to dark-green, leafy vegetables, and orange-colored fruits and any other vegetables. It is proven that beta-carotene reduces the risk of stroke. It also absorbs free radicals that harms the cell membranes.
• Lycopene
• Lutein

Where can we find antioxidants?

Well, we can found it on the foods we ingest. Variety of foods contains antioxidants like fruits and vegetables. We also found it in cold water fish, nuts, red meat, sea foods, and legumes.

Antioxidants are also used by food factories in food preservations and processing. It also serves as product additives. Some of the foods that are preserved with antioxidant additives includes oil, cheese, and bread.
Eating varied of vegetables and fruits will increase the amount of antioxidants needed by our body that reduces the incidence of diseases. Fruits and vegetables are highly recommended to eat it in a natural way instead of juicing it because juices contain lots of sugar that is not needed by our body.
