Madagascar plague death toll rises to 171 with a 4% jump in cases as experts fear the 'worst outbreak in 50 years' WILL become resistant to antibiotics and reach US, Europe and Britain

The deadly plague outbreak in Madagascar is rapidly spiralling out of control as 171 people have now lost their lives, official figures reveal. World Health Organization data also shows the 'medieval disease' has infected 2,119 in the country off the coast of Africa - a four per cent jump in a handful of days. The 'crisis' has prompted ten African countries to be placed on high alert, with the WHO ordering nine to step up preparations.
Experts fear the plague, which strikes Madagascar every year, will inevitably become resistant to antibiotics and mutate and become untreatable. Others worry it will eventually hit the US, Europe and Britain, leaving millions more vulnerable due to how quick it can spread through populations.

Infected Fugitives: Black Death patients are ESCAPING Madagascan hospital and refusing treatment sparking fears it may spread

Hospital patients in Madagascar suffering from the plague are running away from hospitals because they are scared of needles and aren't used to hospital treatment. Security guards at the Central Anti-Plague Hospital in Ambohimindra, are tasked with keeping patients in as well as making sure those arriving follow safety procedures. Officials at the hospital say the main reason why patients run away is that they are scared of needles and don't have much experience of hospitals.

What Is The Black Death

The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people in Eurasia and peaking in Europe in the years 1346–1353. The bacterium Yersinia pestis, resulting in several forms of plague, is believed to have been the cause. The plague created a series of religious, social, and economic upheavals, which had profound effects on the course of European history.

The Black Death is estimated to have killed 30–60% of Europe's total population. In total, the plague may have reduced the world population from an estimated 450 million down to 350–375 million in the 14th century. The world population as a whole did not recover to pre-plague levels until the 17th century. The plague recurred as outbreaks in Europe until the 19th century.

Maybe this is what we need. After all, the black death in Europe contributed to the emergence of the Renaissance.

Well that's a very "cups half full" way to look at it!

Nice! :D
