Does dieting help you in the long run? - by @dcrypto

Weight loss is majority people’s problem these days. In order to look slim and be healthy, we follow various rules such as exercising and not eating much. Dieting and eating less give you instant results, but do you now they harm in the long run, leading to many health issues and perhaps obesity. However, there are many pieces of evidence that says don’t diet or don’t stop eating, yet eat healthily and just eat regularly.

To comprehend this problem, a study has been conducted at the University of Helsinki where almost 4900 young people participated. These people were asked to share their stories on their weight gain, and weight change occurred in last ten years which is from 24 to 34 years. The results of the study are given below,

Most subjects gained weight during the decade in between. Only 7.5% of women and 3.8% of men lost weight over the period. Between the ages of 24 and 34, the mean gain in women was 0.9 kg per year, while in men the corresponding gain was 1.0 kg.

These results state that dieting in earlier stages leads weight again in following years. The reasons for this weight gain include dieting and irregular eating habits during earlier ages. In addition to that, women’s weight gain increased because of giving birth. On the other hand, men’s weight increased due to smoking.

"To effectively prevent weight gain, understanding the factors underlying weight management that precedes the gain, or primary weight management, is of utmost importance," notes Kärkkäinen.

Therefore, we can understand that weight management is primarily influenced by eating habits and exercise. Experts say although dieting directly influences weight management, people end up in eating more and gain weight in the longer run. Thus, they recommend focus rather on a regular meal than dieting or skipping a meal, which helps in better functioning of the body.
