I heard that Achilles's mother put him to a magical potion which makes him invincible. But She was holding Achilles's heels and putting him into the potion upside down, so that the only spot he didn't get the potion was his heels. Hence his weak spot. :)
It's interesting that it's usually seen in young boys and girls. Does it have something to do with growth spurt?

Perhaps, protecting from excessive training, choosing appropriate sports for their age and physical structure and we can support with appropriate shoes.
