Daytime sleep. Do you sleep during the day?😴#48video
Many times heard and read that daytime sleep is useful for children up to 7-9 years, because up to this age the nerve fibers are completely myelinated. In simple terms, myelination is a process in which the nerve fibers are covered with a protective shell consisting mainly of lipids and partly of proteins. Myelin fibers are white, hence the name "white matter" brain.
Due to the myelin the nerve fibers travel more quickly in contrast to nerve fibers that aren’t myelinated. Myelin can be compared with the insulation of wires (nerves).
So, during sleep, myelination rate increases. And it should be a phase of sleep, when a person sees dreams – the so-called fast sleep. In an adult sleep cycle lasts about one and a half hours, and each cycle is sure to have a REM sleep.
In children, the sleep cycle is shorter, about one hour. And so, if the child sleeps during the day, he needs to sleep a multiple of one hour to get into the REM sleep (it goes after the phase of NREM sleep - slow deep sleep).
So, day sleep for children is justified and really necessary. And if you have a small child up to 7 years, try to teach him or her to sleep during the day one and a half hours.
But what about adults? Daytime sleep is useful for them, because during the day a person has a natural decrease in activity about 13-15 hours (of course, if we are talking about a person who goes to bed on time and gets enough sleep at night). This is a great time to sleep or relax.
The main thing is the duration of sleep and its regularity. It can be useful if you constantly practice it for 15-25 minutes at the same time or for an hour and a half.
When my children were very young, I slept with them during the day. And it was a blessed time! Now I also sometimes manage to sleep during the day, but this is rare.
How's everything going with you? Do you have daytime sleep?

greetings, charming Behelen
I have insomnia problemns. I cant sleep fine because i have a lots of nightwares, since i suffer my firts assalt attempt. Its was very hard for me. I always fell that something bad will happen to me.
Thank you for this.
When there is insomnia, can help auto-training on relaxation. Some also drink a sedative, but I'm afraid of such measures, as it can be addictive.
@behelen, thank you for the information! I would like to have a nap on a daily basis ... but I work everyday 8 hours at an office, so I don't have this opportunity.
Yes, when working in the office it is difficult.
I respect those employers who care about the day's rest of employees (it doesn't necessarily have to be a dream, but at least some break not only to eat at lunch, and extra).
Thanks for sharing about sleep. I myself been working shift work for 20 years now. Often work nights. so sleeping at night is rare for me to experience. i am almost a regular daytime sleeper. even in days off i still need an afternoon nap. often i sleep 3 hours a day usually is regular sleep to me. Anyway thanks for sharing.
Heavy rhythm, I think. This is not suitable for humans, given the rhythms of day and night and how it reacts to the body.
On the other hand, I hope you have managed to adapt to this regime over the years.
What period during the day is Daytime sleep likely to yield the best results?

In 13-16 hours, before sunset.
@behelen, I got extra knowledge from you today about daytime sleep. I heard myelin my ordinary level exam period and currently forget science & technology process. For me I take 6-8 hours per day. It's very enough for my body and good healthy.

@madushanka, it's great that you have enough 6-8 hours of sleep!
Hey @behelen thanks for great information. I would like to sleep in daytime but my wholedays routine is so typical. So I hardly found time to sleep daytime, almost no. I little bit take a nap during summer season, when exhausted physically.
Thank you

Thank you, @certain! If you can not sleep, it will be enough at least 15 minutes to sit with your eyes closed or do something relaxing.
I have MS, which is a condition where my myelin is being damaged, so this made me feel good about the afternoon naps that I am learning to enjoy! #snapfeedback
Thank you for comment, @melinda010100! Wish you good health!
Personally, I never sleep during the day as I feel like it's a complete waste of time and energy. Instead of waking up refreshed, if I nap during the day, I just wake up more exhausted than I was before going to sleep.
Thus, I literally never go to sleep during the day. I would rather go to leep earlier that day, than to nap mid day.
You're right, this state, when after sleep feel worse than before sleep, it happens often. This is the result of waking up during the NREM sleep (slow deep phase). This happens even when you wake up after a night's sleep.
Nap after lunch, which is probably a bad thing... I'm not in a Mediterranean country either where its common. It does get hot during the day in Thailand thus after a filling meal and the heat, I can nap between 13:00-15:00 (sometimes). It's bad I feel, but you say it's good. It won't be so common in the future when I have a job, thus max it out whilst I'm a grad student. 😉

I say that it is good, but one need to follow certain rules: sleep or 15-25 minutes, or 1.5 hours.
Sure I'll consider that next time. Thanks for your post 😊👍
