2018 Health Insurance Premiums

in #health6 years ago

I've had a personal health insurance policy through Oxford/United Healthcare since 2003. The monthly premium trended modestly upward since that time until it spiked up 30% in 2014. In 2016 there was another 30% increase. For 2017 it "only" went up 15% but for the first time they added a deductible ($2,500) along with a 20% co-pay (vs. low fixed co-pay) which meant it was effectively another ~30% annual increase.

So I changed insurance to Horizon BCBS for 2017 to get lower premiums. It's renewal time for 2018 - the increase next year - 32%. The fourth 30% annual increase in five years.

Is the rapid escalation of insurance costs due to incompetence or is it accidental somehow? When things like this happen I used to say, "How can they be so stupid!" and/or "This makes no sense."

People say "How can they be so stupid!" and "This makes no sense." all the time.

Well, "they" aren't stupid - in fact they're far smarter than us. If we want to understand the truth about what's happening we need to change our thinking until it does make sense.

Many times over the past several years it has seemed clear "they" (The Lizard People) are carefully, relentlessly and consistently executing a strategy to impoverish and control us. They're not stupid. It does make sense.

Each time we say "How can they be so stupid?" let's take a moment to remember they're not stupid - they're smarter than us. They're smarter than us and it can make sense if we change our thinking.

So, let's change our thinking until it does make sense. What we see now will be very different from what we saw before though nothing has changed except our thinking. Let's call this revised perception a "dot". As we see more and more dots over time the dots start to create a new picture.

What picture do you see?

They're not stupid. It does make sense.
