Common Problems With Reverse Osmosis Water Filters

Let's face it - we all need to drink water. We all used to drink tap water and thought nothing of it. Then we learned tap water was bad for us so we started drinking bottled water. We later learned that bottled water is bad for us too. Now many people choose to filter their own water at home. But how much better is it?

Reverse osmosis (RO) is one of the most popular types of water filters on the market today. RO is fairly economical and it does a good job at removing unwanted contaminants to make the water clean, but it has its downsides too.

Reverse Osmosis Water is Dead

Water is a living element of natural health. There are a number of interesting anomalies of water that make it so life can exist on this planet. Water is a carrier of information, and energy. It stores memory and could be used in advanced technology for that reason some day. An electrical charge can be conducted with water with minerals, and we're electrical beings. Without minerals, water is unable to hold an electrical charge.

RO Water Has Low Mineral Content

Water is meant to have minerals in it. You can tell by looking at nature and seeing that water in nature has minerals. As water flows in nature it cleanses itself, structures itself, and accumulates minerals from flowing over rocks.

Distilled water is unable to conduct electricity because all of the minerals are taken out. There there's likely to be some minerals left in RO water, but most of them are removed in the process. Filtering water via RO and distillation wasn't originally meant for consumption. It was meant to create "clean" water for a lab. The end product is water that is unstructured and dead.

The minerals in water are important for the water and for our health.When we sweat or urinate, we eliminate minerals. If water is eliminated with minerals in it, we should be consuming water with minerals in it. Otherwise our bodies will have to steal minerals from its reserves.

After reviewing over a hundred of scientific studies on the subject, the World Health Organization issued a warning about the health risks from drinking demineralised water.

RO Water is Unstructured

Water naturally structures itself by forming layers when allowed to move freely in nature. Because we get our water from bottles or a tap, our water doesn't come to us flowing in nature. Therefore it's likely not very structured. Structured water has small microclusters that allow the water to get into the cells a lot more easily. That means structured water is more hydrating and cleansing, because the cells are able to get rid of the old "dirty" water and replace it with the new, structured water.

Structured water also holds a charge better. Water can pick up energy from multiple sources that we know of, and probably a lot more that we don't know of yet. In his book The Fourth Phase of Water, Dr. Gerald Pollack explains his discoveries of water, such as structured water being charged with radiant energy, including light and infrared waves.

When water is forced through the membrane in an RO system, it's bonds are separated and they don't quite come back together perfectly. Large clusters are formed, making the water less hydrating because its size makes it hard to enter the cells.

RO Wastes Water

It takes 2-5 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of RO water. While some people are not concerned with their water usage, they should be. It's only a matter of time before we have a water crisis on our hands. We're pulling water from underground without knowing how much of it is left. The U.S. wastes tons of water while children are dying in other countries due to lack of clean drinking water. It's a shame. Another reason why you should be concerned with wasting water is because it wastes money. Who wants to waste money? Water can be pretty costly in same places too. So it's something to consider.

Bacterial Contamination

The reason why we put water through RO is because we're trying to remove the contaminants from it. If the water comes out with a bacterial contamination it's defeating the purpose. Unfortunately, this happens more than people realize. Bacterial contamination might actually be the #1 problem with RO!

Rips in Membrane

Bacterial contamination can happen over time in a RO unit. Bacteria accumulate on the membrane, eventually eating their way through it. Bacterial contamination in a RO system can lead to the bacteria eating their way through the membrane. Rips in the membrane mean the water passes through without being filtered, which defeats the purpose of filtering it to begin with. For this reason many people are drinking RO water thinking it's clean but rips in the membrane are allowing harmful contaminants to get through.

One way to reduce your chances of bacterial contamination is to change your filters regularly, which is easier said than done. We tend to forget when to, or procrastinate, and sometimes we just simply don't have the money. It helps to have a RO system that has a digital TDS (total dissolved solids) meter so you can monitor it. RO water should have a low TDS. If you notice your TDS increases significantly, it's time to change the filters.
