Health Benefits of Garlic
Garlic is a tasty and healthy ingredient that is particularly beneficial to health. Garlic is versatile, and can be eaten, cooked or taken as a supplement to augment health and add flavor. Garlic’s strong flavor and health benefits make it a no-brainer when deciding to flavor our food.
Garlic is a natural antibiotic, and helps to stave off colds. If you’re feeling like you may be getting sick, eating raw garlic straight from the clove will help you. Garlic is rich in Vitamin-C, and makes a good combination with citrus fruit, which is also rich in Vitamin-C. Illnesses often blunt our sense of taste and smell, which is good when piling on garlic which has a strong taste and odor. It’s worth the effort to supplement your diet with garlic cloves and oil.
Garlic is good for the liver and heart and has been traditionally been used to prevent cancers and infections. Garlic has a compound called diallyl trisulfide, which is used to treat heart issues, and can be absorbed when garlic cloves are eaten. Garlic and garlic extracts are being used to treat and prevent many cancers including liver and prostate cancers. As we age, we need to tailor our diet towards healthy choices with nutrient-dense foods. I have reduced my pasta intake, but add garlic to chicken dishes which are a lean meat that is versatile and can be covered in a variety of sauces and vegetables.
Garlic is also rich in fiber, and has been shown to reduce negative cholesterol in the body. Garlic cloves and oil have been shown to reduce the effects of LDL in the body while maintaining the health of the circulatory system at large.
I enjoy the flavor of garlic, and it adds so much to pasta dishes, sauces and breads. I do suck on and eat raw garlic cloves when I am feeling ill, and I have seen a definite positive affect when doing so. Consider adding garlic to your pasta dishes whenever you can, especially during cold and flu season.
