The mainstream media are bots, AKA NPCs. They all seem to share a single brain cell, (not even two to rub together). You can expect them to propagate whatever meme or thought those in power want to infect the people with. The media have no original thoughts of their own, but they are good at rehashing the 'official message' a thousand different ways and adding emotional triggers to tug at the heartstrings of their unwary audience - "we are all in this together".
