The sensation of pain is a very peculiar thing as it is a psychological response to a physical stimulus. The Gate Theory to Pain brought the connection between the two together for the first time. This theory states, in gist, that the more nonpain sensation in ratio to pain sensation the less pain that is actually transmitted. It works through a series of nerves, neurons and interneurons.
