Spearmint and other Herbs I use for PCOS and Endometriosis

I have tried traditional medications, they didn’t help and sometimes made matters worse. So I decided to switch to a hippie doc.

So let’s start by talking about what PCOS stands for.
It stands for polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Some of the symptoms of PCOS are missed cycles, cysts on the ovaries, and infertility, inability to loose weight no matter what, male pattern hair loss, male pattern hair growth, and other fertility problems like the inability to release eggs from the ovary.
The symptoms cause immense depression and social anxiety. Some women are born with the genes that cause PCOS, all it needed was the activation of puberty.
If a cyst ruptures it can cause internal bleeding.
Personally one overy was the size of a softball, the other a base ball. If I remember correctly they are suppose to be about the size of a golf ball.

There is no cure for PCOS, though many claim they have found it. It just goes into remission/hibernation and can/does come back.
Evil people take advantage of women suffering from this and make money from them with false hope and promises.
First thing a traditional doctor tells you is you’re fat, and that you would be fixed if you just lost weight. They also push birth control pills heavily. Then they tell you, you will never have kids.

I proved them wrong and had children, it took many years though.

After I had my children my PCOS and endometriosis came back with a vengeance. Yes endometriosis on top of already having PCOS.

Endometriosis is an invisible illness that causes immense pain. The only way to truly find out if you have endometriosis it to have surgery.
Endometriosis, or Endo for short, is when the endometrial lining starts to grow in the wrong places in the abdomen. Causing swelling and a “pregnant belly” look. No joke, it makes women look pregnant, while they are unable to get pregnant. Kinda like salt and vinager in an open wound.
Endo causes stabbing and dull pain that can last hours, days and weeks. Sometimes even longer. It can be worse when there is a spike in hormones.
It wraps around other organs and causes scaring. It can cut off blood supplies to other organs.
It caused fertility problems too. It can cause women to have very heavy cycles and can cause hemorrhaging.

When I had my children I had to have a c-section, birth plans fell through because heart rates started to drop.
I believe when they cut me open and stitched me back up it activated the Endo.

So back to the herbs.
I take:
• Gymnema Sylvestre, in place of Metformin which is force fed to women with PCOS.
• Nettle for the PCOS, for the side effects
• Spearmint tea, for the side effects and hormonal inbalences caused by PCOS. This one is new and I am growing my own.

I also take Kelp( thyroid ), Zinc, CoQ10( heart ), vitamin D3 5,000, fish oil, magnesium(for heart palpitations, prescribed by a cardiologist), and a daily vitamin.

Along with all the herbbies, I have to eat a “Mediterranean diet”.
Red meat, such as cow meat, causes pain. Cow dairy causes pain as well.
I can eat moose meat, along with fish, pork, and poultry.
I eat lentils, brown rice, and beans.

*i forgot to add that a hysterectomy partial/full is not a cure. Endometriosis is already outside of the uterus. Once PCOS and Endometriosis is activated it is very difficult to shut it off, or stop it. It kind of has a snowball effect on the endocrine system.

Sort:  

I do not have endometriosis myself ( at least I don't think so?) but period pain and a lot of food/skin sensitivities. I cut sugar and wheat off my diet 7 months ago and have seen a massive positive impact on my health since then. It's crazy how many illnesses and chronic diseases seem to be linked to processed food. And traditional medicine is for the most part clueless when it comes to chronic diseases so I fully support your choice of hippie doc! I like Chinese medicine to keep my PMS symptoms in check and it works fairly well.

The only true and sure fire way to find out if you have endometriosis is for them to do a exploratory laparoscopy.

My average day is 4-6, today was an 11-13/14. It took me to my knees.

It is sad that we have to pay extra not to be poisoned.
I have allergic reactions to non organic apples and couldn’t eat them for years, same with almonds.
I can eat organic apples easily, and can tell if they lie about it being organic.
As for almonds I did allergy testing, I am “allergic”. But I can drink and do drink organic almond milk. I also eat pasteurized almonds with no problem.

Processed food is for convenience not health.
I do break the rules from time to time and pay for it with immense pain. I can’t have a good burger. Moose meat it very lean and there just isn’t a replacement for a Ruben, or a shroom and swiss, or even a Wendy’s burger.
I miss them, sometimes once in about six months I will eat cow and pay the price.

Based on this scale I think I probably don't have it but I have IBS so I totally relate to the food part. With years and symptoms worsening I got used to eat what my body can handle, not what I crave or what is tasty, and now I feel much better. I do miss cheese and bread sometimes though! I wish you to keep endometriosis under control (if it is ever possible). It sounds like an awful condition but yet again just like so many chronic symptoms it may be a blessing in disguise to be forced to reevaluate the ways we feed/ take care of our body.

Yeah I was told I have IBS, for me it’s Endo warped around my intestines. It has the same reactions on the body, then I take magnesium. It tears up the belly, but helps my heart.
My illnesses are invisible so it’s hard for family to remember or even understand that it isn’t a food fad. They are of the opinion it isn’t there because they don’t see or feel it.
This post helped remind me and my husband how picky and sucky my diet is.
I try my best, it’s not always easy or cheap with all the things I am not allowed to eat.

Thing is, soooooo much importance goes to "food as a lifestyle" and we learn from a very young age to appreciate easy/ tasty food and to use food as a reward system (induuuuuulge, you deserve it!). Then on top of that "experts" tell us what to eat because they know better than we do what works for us. (Hello food pyramid. Never did much good to me)
But food is just what it is : a fuel to keep the body going. We focus wayyyyyy too much on it as a source of personal reward/ lifestyle / way to define ourselves if that makes any sense. Do we ever think about the other ways we feed our body? The air we breathe? The ideas we expose our brains to? etc... Food is a worldwide obsession but there is so much more to life than what is on our plate ! lol :)
