someone asked me

I just bought glasses with minus 1/2 specifications in both eyeballs & 1/4 cylinder in one eye. I already bought glasses. What I want to ask, should I always wear glasses wherever I go? if so, do you use glasses too often to make you feel uncomfortable when you don't use glasses?

I use glasses because work that requires me is always in front of the computer. Also give tips, how long does the eye look at the computer screen & how long is the rest interval?

aswer from me

Minuses and cylinders are part of the refraction disturbance in the eye. Refractive disorder is a condition in which the eye cannot focus the light falling right on the retina resulting in a blurry picture. There are 3 known types of refractive disorders, namely minus (myopia) which requires correction with concave lens glasses, plus (hypermetropia) which requires correction with convex lenses, and cylinders (astigmat) which require correction with cylindrical lenses. A person with refractive disorder has a chief complaint of blurred vision and can be accompanied by additional symptoms such as dizziness, tired eyes, dry eyes, etc.

Some of the treatments available to correct refractive disorders are by using glasses, contact lenses, and lasik surgery. The most recommended treatment in general is to use glasses. Contact lenses and lasik surgery are only recommended under certain conditions. If after using goggles the view is still blurry or there are additional symptoms such as dizziness and / or tired eyes, it is necessary to ensure that the glasses used are in accordance with the conditions and sizes needed. So we recommend that you consult a doctor. The doctor will conduct a question-answer and several examinations regarding the conditions experienced. Some checks that may be carried out such as vision examination (visual acuity) eyes, examination of the front eyeball, refraction examination, and other examinations as indicated. After checking and getting the size and type of lens needed, you will usually try several lenses to reach the best correction level without any additional symptoms such as dizziness or tired eyes.

The state of the eye that is uncomfortable when not using glasses is usually caused by a state of vision that becomes blurry again and makes the work of the eyes become heavy. So it is advisable to be able to maximize the use of glasses always if it is indeed necessary to get eyeglass correction except at times such as sleeping, bathing, and conditions where using glasses can be dangerous.

Regarding the conditions under which the eyes are used to work in front of the screen for a long time, there are some suggestions that you can do:

  • Position the screen as high or slightly lower towards the front of the eye.

  • Adjust the screen lighting that makes the eyes feel comfortable and adjusted to the conditions around you. Some experts now also recommend reducing light with a blue spectrum.

  • Set the size of the writing or object that is the focus of your work so it does not burden the work of the eye to see objects that are too big or small.

  • Make sure you blink regularly because it will help your eyes not dry out.

  • Using a 20-20-20 system to rest your eyes that is seeing objects as far as 20 feet for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.

  • Undergo a healthy lifestyle that is enough sleep, eat nutritious foods especially those that contain vitamin A which is good for the eyes, and regular exercise.

That is all from us. May be useful.
