Amazing Cliff Climb Hike to Refreshing Secluded Pools in Maui, Hawaii
There's this cool, exhilarating, and for some people, challenging cliff climb on west side of Maui that leads to these beautiful ponds that get refreshed by the crashing ocean waves.
It's also colloquially known as "Chutes and Ladders" ... although not sure where the "ladders" part comes into play, as there is no ladder.
The hike to this secluded spot, is just that, mostly secluded. You'd need to know where the spot is to park along the side of the road and then find the path that leads to where the cliff climb starts.
As you can see from the photo above, the cliff climb is around 50 to 60 feet high.
There's a rope to help if people needed to use the rope, but the climb down and up can be easily done without a rope, and actually, might be safer and easier to do without a rope, since you can use two hands and two feet to concentrate on the position as you climb down the face of the cliff.
The above photo is the view from the top of the cliff. The upper West side Maui is indeed very scenic and beautiful. When you drive past Lahaina, where its very hot and dry, then going all the way past Napili and Kapalua ... you seem to be back in the lush jungle again.
The above photo shows another view, looking down from the cliff side, where you'd climb down the wall about 50 - 60 feet down. It does look scary for the first time climber ... where they get a little bit hesitant looking down at the cliff side.
Again, the above photo shows the rope that is available for those who wish to use the rope (for safety in mind) ... although I personally feel that the hike can be done without the rope. There's plenty of nook and holes to hold with your hands or place your feet firmly on.
Actually, I did the entire climb up and down barefoot!
And there goes me climbing down the cliff side!
The next series of photos below show the beautiful ocean side swimming pool ... the water is clean majority of the time because the ocean waves crash and bring new fresh seawater to mix in the pool.
The pool is deep enough to cliff jump into the pool, and swim around.
The pool is beautiful and water simply just feels refreshing!

Looks like you hustled up and down that cliff very well and bare feet at that.
I would be using the rope and with shoes on when climbing that steep cliff.

Yes the chutes and ladder hike was a re-highlight of my time there. Otherwise, I had terrible allergies the entire time I was visiting in Maui unfortunately. I guess I tried to make the best of it ... even though it's tough when your nose is congested and head hurts LOL.
I like the pics of the clear water...you look tired and need a drink of that cool water? Looks clean enough. Keep on climbing but it's not for me. You are the spring chicken

Yes for first timer, looking down over the cliff can look quite daunting, but once you start the climb down ... it really isn't so scary. They always say, remain "calm".
Yep, stay calm..... staying focused is good, but what do you do after you pee your pants haha
