Numerous studies show that Hawaii will be affected negatively by climate change. This change will bring coastal flooding, warmer temperatures, extended periods of drought, and hurricanes with greater intensity and consequence, among other things.

Governor David Ige has noted that Hawaii needs to move on a path of food, as well as energy, self sufficiency. Hawaii researchers developed models of three main Native Hawaiian “agro-ecosystems” under current and future climate change scenarios.

These models are:

  • Loi (wetland)
  • Dryland
  • Colluvial (valley)

The ancient Hawaiians grew different crops in each of these divergent climatic zones thus ensuring that food would always be available in whatever nature threw at the islands.

We are planning to to this at our Tiny House as well as we finally finished the grounds and now we plan to grow our own food.
