Shark and Ray Protection Bill Moves Forward in Hawaii Legislature

House Bill 808 is a bill that would make it illegal to knowingly kill, capture or abuse any variety of shark or ray in state waters. It has moved out of the House Committee on Water, Land and Hawaiian Affairs with a 5-0 vote.

The Legislature not only needs to enact laws to protect the natural environment, but more importantly, it needs to allocate more funds to the Department of Land and Natural Resources for the enforcement of the laws.

Another thing that is important is that the regulation, and control, of the businesses that make their money off of the environment for tourism need to pay their fair share to keep the environment secure.
