Six residents of Leilani Estates, including the Leilani Community Association’s president, secretary and treasurer, and the association’s board filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court on Thursday asking for an injunction to prevent the county and FEMA from taking down the checkpoint without advance notice and a hearing.

The residents are asking the federal courts to order Hawaii County officials to maintain the security checkpoint that keeps out nonresidents, and to order the Federal Emergency Management Agency to continue paying for it.

The problem is that Leilani Estates is being invaded by people wanting to see the land covered by the lava, and the famous Fissure 8. The difficulty is that the eruption occurred in the middle of people's property and homes. Thus the onlookers trespass on peoples land, and property to get to the area that the trespassers want to see.

This ties in to the story of the people that abuse the Honokohau Harbor. The problem is the lack of respect of the land, and the ocean. This lack of respect is not just the visitors, but unfortunately its the residents of Hawaii. These particular residents are just motivated by money. They will abuse the land, and take advantage of the situation, in order to make as much money as possible.

Our thoughts, and prayers, go out to the residents of Leilani Estates. We hope you prevail.
