The fact that Harmony is one of the top 15 decentralised networks, the phase 2 Harmony Mainnet version literally aims to include 4 more shards with over 400 nodes each with now a total of over 1600 nodes which also literally adds a token swap to the native ONE token which include:
the token transfers
and the staking smart contract.

The better known implications of Harmony's ability to scale linearly is that Harmony shards both the processing and and the record keeping of the network hence making storage requirements less restrictive.

The importance of sharding on multiple layers.
To most tech enthusiasts, sharding can be defined as the process of dividing a database's computational responsibilities into shards (or small segments) where each shard individually carries out its tasks hence easing the total pressure and burden of computation. This has enabled the breakdown of large computational tasks into smaller chunks which are easier to run and process.
More to that, Harmony has come up with two kinds of chains and these include;
A beacon chain
Multiple shard chains.
For the beacon chain, it is an identity register derived from a random generator. But for sharding on the multiple layers, Harmony's beacon chain has made everything easier, simple, fast and reliable. The beacon chain has the ability to store separate blockchain states (automicity) and process transactions.

With the remarkable development of Harmony, we shall be able see a numerous number of applications and activities being built and run on the Harmony infrastructure including gaming, large scale economies, enterprise infrastructure, etc.
