From a cradle of piety - child training

They were young, carefree, rude, impious, and had no regard for elders. They had probably reviled some elders in the past and got away with their insolent behaviour, which gave them the impetus to treat everyone with comtempt. But this fateful day, they went too far and paid dearly for their impropriety and bad manners.
Trooping out of the city like some homeless kids, they followed Elisha, the man of God who was passing by, scorning him for no apparent reason: "Go up thou bald head, go up thou bald head." They continued this satire for some time until he was grieved and turned around to curse them. Immediately after the pronouncement, two she-bears came out of the wood and devoured forty-two of them. According to an anonymous writer, these young men "are the prototype of thousands of youth today. If they can be taught at home, in school, at church, the lessons of reverence and self-control, they may escape the fate which otherwise will overtake them. Lawless youthmay not be torn asunder by bears, but they are rent by passions, devoured by appetite, until their characters and careers and their hopes for happy, useful living are destroyed.
The tragedy that befell these wayward, insolent,mannerless children highlight the importance of giving our children a proper and a godly upbringing. Had they been groomed in the fear of God from the cradle and not left to themselves or allowed to become street urchins, they wouldn't have ended up the way they did. But the question is, can parents who are impious or ungodly themeselves, raise poius, godly children? The truth is, you can't give what you don't have. Training children isn't all about barking verbal instructions at them; its about the example you show them. Children are imitators, and they learn faster by imitating your actions rather than listening to your words. So the lifestyle of " do as i say not as i do " won't raise godly children.
