Ian Cowie: What would I tell a young punk like me? Make your money do the hard work

Some readers get straight to the point. One looked me in the eye, socially-distanced in the town square, and said: “Why don’t you write something for young people? All your stuff is for wrinklies.” As charm offensives go, it could have been less offensive, and more charming. Even so, here goes.

Young folk face many financial problems that my age group never had to worry about. Some — such as the absence of 100 per cent mortgages that made this cub reporter a homeowner — were set out in last Sunday’s feature about the left-behind generation.
